What is Spacement?

Spacement is not your typical tribute band. Don't expect a note for note, greatest-hits, look-a-like package. Spacement takes the approach of playing music with feeling and it varies from song to song and performance to performance. Spacement has performed numerous times over the last 3 years at Bourbon Street, Shorty's, Cadillac Ranch, The Pound and more. Check out the past shows section for Spacement's past setlists. The setlist is never the same and always changing. We now have a video section for live samples of the Spacement in action. We'll see you on the Dark Side of the Moon...Until then Keep on Spacing!

And now more a bit too much information about Spacement...

Way back in the dark and distant era of Reaganomics, a group of sexually frustrated schoolboys got together to relieve these frustrations through music. Everyday, after school, the boys would race home to fire up the VCR (amongst other things) and watch Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii to help their minds relax and get their bodies ready. SYD, now a legend in their own minds, was formed by Phil, A.J. & Tim with Doug and Dave. What seemed like a lifetime only lasted three months. But two decades later the former members of SYD will still tell you about the glory days of their youth back in 1986.

In an effort to recapture those glory days, Spacement was formed from the ashes of the now infamous Nerve Endings during the summer of 2002. Originally a garage band thriving on trucker and southern rock classics but now relocated to the basement of Phil & A.J.'s house. The original line-up featured Greg (guitar/vocals), Boon (bass/vocals), Phil (guitar/vocals), Jeff (drums) & A.J. (drums). As a result of not enough sunlight, too many lasers and the ever belching fog machine the band mutated into a spaced out jam band covering the darker side of the Stones, Hendrix, The Beatles, The Dead and most of all Pink Floyd. The fog got to Jeff and after Spacement didn't play a Billy Gibbons solo song from the 60's, Jeff left the band to work in an ice cream shop.

After more than a year of jamming, drinking and hanging out, Spacement became more than a band, it was now a way of life. Originally the band was called The Distinctive Lick and we were going to throw parties in the spacy basement and call them Spacements. Something kin to the 60's Acid Tests but without the quality acid of the period. But prior to the first party, the name Distinctive Lick was out and Spacement was in.

In an odd twist of fate, I ran a search on the web for Spacement. And pretty much every site that came up was tied to Pink Floyd. Seems there's a very popular Floyd bootleg called, Libest Spacement Monitor. Anyone who's seen our Floyd medley knows that's the highlite of our shows. So that sealed the name, Spacement.

Over two years after forming we've grown from a 4 piece to a 5, 6, or sometimes 7 piece band (sometimes Greg is helping Jeff in the ice cream shop). We now add Tim (from the molly McGuires & SYD) on keyboards/vocals and an occasional appearance from Chris on sax/percussion to the mix.

Life is a mere illusion and we hope to add some color and fun to that illusion. Afterall we are nothing more than several guys having a great time and becoming the best of friends. If you've never had the pleasure of experiencing Spacement we hope that one day you will join us. So get ready to journey down into the Spacement, pull up a chair, grab a drink, sit back and open your mind. And if you think we're serious, think again, we're only just having fun!

Peace, Love & Spacement
